Dr. Sam Petersen, also known as The Boise Natural Dentist, is an Idaho native. Both he and his wife were raised in South East Idaho. He is passionate about helping his patients achieve whole body health and wellness through biological dentistry and a holistic lifestyle.

Dr. Petersen is a lifelong learner and endearingly surrounds his wife with all his books in their constantly expanding library. He is driven by keeping his family and patients healthy. While his list is long, some of his favorite books include: Regenerate by Sayer Ji, Wim Hoff Method, Breathe by James Nestor, Eat Dirt by Dr. Axe, and the work of Weston Price, to name only a few.

He continually immerses himself in new ideas and ways of thinking to provide the best care for his patients to help his patients achieve optimal health and wellness.

The Journey to Holistic

Dr. Samuel Petersen's journey began with his four year old daughter's diagnosis of an autoimmune condition, followed by his own struggle with debilitating migraines, and his mother suffering from chronic illness brought on by environmental exposures. These challenges led him to search for help and answers. Dr. Petersen sought out doctor after doctor and received expensive, invasive testing. He was offered symptom-blocking treatments with unknown side effects, none of which provided any real solution to the root of the issues. He knew there had to be a better way.

Through his determination to discover how to help his daughter, himself, and those he loves, his journey led him to an elimination diet, gut health, and a continual quest to optimize wellness. He has an understanding of the struggles so many face, and like so many, this was the catalyst that led him to holistic solutions. After completing dental school, he felt compelled to apply all he had learned from his journey in holistic health to provide deeper healing to help his patients.

The Belief

Dr. Petersen is passionate about keeping teeth ALIVE and vital. He wholeheartedly believes our whole body's health is inseparable from our oral health and vice versa. He is devoted to providing quality care and works diligently to find answers to difficult questions, even if that means completely changing common beliefs and methods.

He believes in partnering with his patients to find the best solution for them. He believes patients have an ultimate say in what is best for themselves and their families. He avidly supports a patient's 'right to choose' and their right to complete informed consent.

Dr. Petersen strives to provide the best dentistry possible while weighing out and balancing the effects and materials such dental treatment may have on a patient systemically.

The Family

Dr. Petersen has a wonderful and compassionate team at Biosmiles. He is blessed with his supportive wife, Sheerstie, and they are the proud parents of 4 beautiful children, Jaylee, Caden, Aubree, and Mandee. They are actively involved in the community, homeschool coops, and other extracurriculars, so you will likely run into them at a local event. Dr. Petersen looks forward to serving Treasure Valley and is excited to see you as a patient soon!
